Term: electrophoresis
Gramatical category: s
Definition: Electrophoresis is a separations technique that is based on the the mobility of ions in an electric field. Positively charged ions migrate towards a negative electrode and negatively-charged ions migrate toward a positive one.
Context: Vertical streaking and other second-dimension problems often result from poor reagent quality or from mistakes in solution preparation. [...] Reusing electrophoresis running buffer can result in poor separation and vertical streaking [...]. This practice should be avoided if vertical streaking is a persistent problem.
