  • Term: cosmid
  • Gramatical category: s
  • Definition: Artificially constructed cloning vector that is used to separate out discrete sections of the DNA for cloning purposes and which contains bacterial phage lambda DNA to allow them to make copies of themselves in their bacterial host and also DNA fragments
  • Context: For cloning smaller DNAs charomids must be used. Into the linearized cosmid the foreign DNA is ligated at appropriate cloning sites flanked by cosmid sequences.
  • Expression: cosmid vector
  • Weighting mark: nor
