Definition: A type of chromosomal aberration in which there is a loss of a part of a chromosome.
Context: Although monosomy of an autosome is apparently lethal, partial monosomy has been recognized in several patients with various congenital abnormalities. In partial monosomy, as the name implies, only part of an autosome is deficient. This is often referred to as deletion.
